Te Whanau Hou Grovetown Lagoon Society would would like to celebrate World Wetland Day by getting people out on a wetland to see what it is all about. We are running a kayaking day on 25 January. Thanks to the Scouts for lending the kayaks for us to use on the day. The event has proven to be very popular this year and is already fully booked. The lagoon is beautiful by kayaking and walking so if you missed out on the paddling this year be sure to come down and take a walk around the lagoon to celebrate World Wetland Day which is officially on the 2nd of February.
Te Whanau Hou Grovetown Lagoon Society is hoping to hit predators at the lagoon twice as hard with two very good pieces of news. We have been successful in a grant application to begin the predator control program at the lagoon. In addition to the predator control program the Scouts and Renwick Mens Shed have donated 140 rat traps to the project. The next step for the predator control program is to meet with the neighbours of the Lagoon and discuss how to proceed.
In addition to vertebrate pests the Society would also like to commence with wasp control, to prevent wasps being a nuisance to people at the Lagoon. It is planned to use vespex, a poison targeting only wasps. This is intended to be laid during the months of February and March.
